UTI - how to test if incontinent?

I hear lots of comments about behavior changes in dementia LOs being related to a UTI. My question: how do you test for a UTI if the person is no longer using the toilet?

If you can get them to the doctor, they do a straight cath. It’s a tiny little catheter which drains just enough to get a sample. The nurses sometimes would do this in the NH for Mom.

I would think that a doctors office would use a catheter to get a sample.
