Why is the question closed off to answers?

I thought when a question was closed off you could read the posts just couldn't post. They have to stop the posting at some point. Just too many responses.

Not sure why? Do you want to start a new question? Maybe it’s a very old question and they get discontinued or something. Others who have been here longer can answer your question appropriately.
