My mother started taking Prednisone 20mg. She started being famished lately, and blames us we are not feeding her. Is it the medicine?

Thank you for all that responded! I am new to this site and I feel like I already have allies. My mother's feet were very swollen and she is awful when comes to taking meds. She was on morphine for a while and just recently lost her hearing in one ear and part of the other. She keeps blaming it on the morphine. That's when they switched to Prednisone 20mg. One day at a time!

Steroids are notorious for causing all sorts of mental changes, often agitation. Research side effects on google and report to the doctor the changes you are noticing.

Steroids usually make me tired (you’d think they’d do the opposite) and starving! Not a “I guess I could eat” but stomach growling every 2 hours.

yes. I took it and was starving all the time and started gaining weight.

Yes.

Prednisone causes the body to retain sodium and lose potassium. This combination can result in fluid retention, weight gain and bloating. It does cause an increase in appetite. Try giving her small meals and snacks throughout the day because she probably is hungry.
