I am back again and still dealing with night time incontinence in a person with vascular dementia. Any suggestions?

I have tried so many products and still can not come up with one that does not leak through. I have tried 6 different "rubber" pants and none work. Any suggestions?

Has anyone had experience with a medication being prescribed to reduce the amount of urine produced? I am a little afraid to try this method as I do not want dehydration to be an issue.

If your husband is taking diuretics, at what time of day is he taking them? It might be worth bringing the second dose forward, say to lunchtime, if he takes it twice daily - check with your doctor.

I just checked to be sure, and there is a Tena product for heavy urine flow, and it can absorb up to 1.4 litres of fluid. That's about three average wees! - and if your husband's output is more than that I think I'd ask his doctor about it anyway.

Have you tried any of the premium diapers from abena, tranquiliy, north shore etc? Many companies offer free samples.

I took my hubby to a urologist.  They have him on Proscar and it is rare that he has to go to the bathroom now through the night.  Before this, he was up 4-6 times.  Granted he is not totally incontinent, he dribbles as he puts it.

I have dealt with this problem many times. I am not sure if you are referring to a male or female that is having incontinence issues. If you are speaking about a male I would suggest the use of an external condom catheter for night time use only. They are inexpensive to purchase and easy to use as they roll on like a condom. I had a male client that was a heavy night time wetter and I had the hardest time keeping him dry through out the night. Multiple bed and clothes changing during the night and it was starting to have an effect on his overall health because he was not getting any sleep. You can purchase them online for about $1.75 each and of course you would have to buy the catheter bag which are usually under $10.00 but I promise you it will be so worth it in the long run.

My husband, with CHF is the same way. I cut off his fluids at 4PM. I’ve also considered having a Supra pubic catheter inserted. He’s on diuretics which makes it worse. There are some overnight diapers that you can only order through a medical supply company that are expensive but people here have said how good they are.

I’m not aware of any meds that stop someone from peeing. There are meds that are anti-spasmodic, though. If you feel his urinating is truly excessive, ask his doctor what they suggest.
