Ok so we don’t have Medicaid in California. We have our own program called medi-cal. If he can’t afford to self pay you, contact the San Diego county department of social services & see if he qualifies for in home support services. They will only assign him a few hours a week & pay you minimum wage. They will not pay you to fill out his paperwork though. If he can’t get IHSS, contact the alliance on aging.

Medi-cal is medicaid. California just gave it a cool marketing name. Same thing.

Yes, but if from his savings you need a written agreement and have to claim it as income at tax time.  If he has no savings, try to get him Medicaid help.  If he is a veteran, he can get care or some income for a caregiver.

Good luck.  It is a difficult time for both of you.

mdelia, the vast majority of grown children who are taking care of their parents do not get paid.... unless the parent can pay you from their savings.

You could check to see if your Dad would qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare] to see if your State has a program where a family caregiver can get paid. Please note the pay may be minimum wage for a few hours per week.
