Katsue Asked December 2018

My mom has dementia and is seeing bugs. Has anyone experienced this and is there anything that can be done for this?

Thank you! We actually have an appointment tomorrow . I'm praying that it is a UTI and not her dementia.

Katsue, i agree with 97yroldmon's posting about urinary tract infections.

My Dad was seeing ants on the wall and in his food. Right away I thought it could be a UTI, and sure enough it was. After a couple of days being on antibiotics the ants started to disappear.

Yes
Many things can cause hallucinations. Start with a physical. She may be dehydrated, have a UTI, be having side effects from medications.
She may need to see a geriatric psychiatrist and/or a geriatric primary.
If this is new behavior, please know that a Urinary Tract Infection can cause the problem and usually requires an antibiotic to resolve.
