Is there anyway to get paid to stay home in Fla and take care of my mom who lives with me. We can't afford to pay someone. She has no assets

My mother is 81. She can't take care of herself. She fell in Dec and broke her hip and had surgery. She was in 2 rehabs and came home and still can't stand or walk. She has a little dementia. I either have to work or stay home and get paid for caring for my mom if possible. Friends say they have friends in other states who get paid to stay home and take care of their parent(s). They say it is not from insurance etc.

It is the question asked most often on this site The short answer is yes if your state has a program to pay caregivers, but it is not much, and the other option is that a contract be drawn up so the parent(s) pay if they have the resources.

Here is a link to answers to that question.

You also need to consider your own earnings and savings and contributions to a pension for your care when you age. In most cases a jobs provides for those much better than the alternative. Don't toss your future away. Good luck.

The veteran's administration may be an option if she or dad were in the military.

Call the Area Agency on Aging in her county. They will help to identify resources she may be eligible for. AAA can also do an assessment to determine her care needs.

Worried is right, but don’t expect much. In Ohio, I found out I’d get $40 a week for 24/7 care of my husband.

If she qualifies for Medicaid, she may be eligible for in home support services through florida’s SMMC LTC program http://elderaffairs.state.fl.us/doea/smmcltc.php
