My mother has dementia. Today we had family in for lunch and she was with us all afternoon and interacted normally. How do I respond?

However later in the evening I mentioned that the family was here she completely forgot. But the twist to the story is that she "Realized that she forgot". That never happened! She was then asking me am I going crazy? How do you respond?

Some patients REALLY HATE to hear the word "dementia." Soften it a bit by saying, "Mom, you have been getting a bit forgetful lately. But you remember stuff later. It's ok. We are working on this together."
