My mom is 84, she has dementia. She keeps her eyes closed at all times even when she eating. Is this normal?

At times she won’t walk, won't go to bathroom.

My aunt was closing one eye. I thought she was having a another stoke. There was an opportunity for her to see an eye doctor at the facility where she lives. It turns out she had high pressure and complete blindness in that eye. It was possibly destroyed by the first stroke. Of course you should bring this up with a doctor.

Mom did this too. She responded but wouldn't open her eyes. She got to the point she wouldn't get out of bed or eat. Call her doctor and have hospice evaluate.

How long has it been since your mom saw her doctor? Is it possible that light hurts her eyes? If she keeps her eyes closed it’s probably a good idea that she doesn’t walk. Is she wearing adult incontinence briefs?

About all you can do is keep Mom safe. Do you have help caring for her? She shouldn’t be alone. Call her doctor and tell him/her what Mom is doing. She may need to have her medications changed.
