CommHelpme Asked July 2018

Mom with dementia was placed in assisted living last week. She was already receiving Medicaid. As POA, when can I sell her mobile home?

The mobile home is 26 years old, currently valued by the county at $3900, hooked up on a rented lot for $125 monthly. If possible, I would like to transfer it to my brother who is disabled (legally blind)?

Was the trailer considered to be your mom's primary residence? If so, when your mom qualified for Medicaid, the house was treated as an exempt asset. But they reserve the right to file a claim against the house once your mom doesn't live there anymore. There are certain circumstances where the house can be given to a child or sibling. You really need to talk to a lawyer before you do anything.
