My mother has been living with me for the past 1.5 years and I have claimed her as a dependent on my tax return. We need advice on Medicaid.

My mother has been living with me past 1.5 year and I have claimed her as a dependent on my 2017 Tax return only. I have been paying her bills or as much as I can. Now when she wants to apply for Medicaid as medical bills are rising and she has no income or insurance, it asks about household size and income. Does she need to include me as part of the household and list my income since I claim her as dependent? We are afraid this might trigger household income and deny her. Is it easier for her to qualify if we removed the dependent status and amend my tax return? Please advise. Any good Attorney in Colorado who can provide guidance on this?

bobby, I would highly recommend that you find an "Elder Law Attorney" who can help you find your way through the maze called Medicaid.
