Mother and father are both elderly father is 75 and mother is 69 and now bed ridden. They are refusing POA. What do I do?

I am a 46 year old daughter. How do I go about getting power of attorney over my mother and father when my father is still competent at this point but is having health issues and he will not allow or sign for me to have power of attorney? What do I do? Is this is all going to fall into my hands when one of them goes anyway?

I agree. A lawyer may be able to explain what a Durable POA entitles. You will need POAs for both Mom and Dad. Financial and Medical.

By the way, 69 is not elderly.😊

Dina, are there other children?? It seems you have discussed this with your Dad already. There is a specific type of POA that only kicks in when he is unable to handle his own affairs. Do you have an attorney friend that could present this option to your Dad?

Dinana, only your Dad can appoint someone to be his Power of Attorney. If he is refusing, there isn't anything else you can do.

Only when both parents can no longer understand and/or not make wise decision that you can try getting Guardianship. Sad that your parents are so young to be going through these health issues.
