How to get doctor to call about medication changes?

Does anyone know what I need in order to have the doctor call me prior to making any changes to my mother's medication? My mom is seen by the doctor (nurse practioner) at her assisted living and has vascular dementia, so she is unable to remember specifics about medication changes. She asks the NP to call her daughter, which the NP says she will, but she never does. I only find out about changes after calling the AL to find out what they were after my mom remembers to tell me something was changed... and sometimes they do not remember to tell me all of the changes. I only find out when I get a copy of her medications to take her to another doctor.

Would a health care proxy or POA force them to call me first?

This is a NP an employee of the doctor. I would call his office and ask if he would call u at his convenience. When he calls you then tell him that you want to be called before changes in Moms meds are made. I assume that the AL gives her the meds. Ask the RN in charge that before they have a new prescription filled they call u for a heads up.

You can try a health care POA. Some docs just won't be proactive about notifications.
