Are there nursing homes where we can self pay month?

JoAnn29 Feb 2018
The answer is yes. You pay monthly.

Monthly as opposed to......?

My mom was in a NH for nearly 4 years. Bill was paid monthly by her POA ( my brother) out of her pension and savings.

Sorry for the confusion. I wanted to ask if nursing homes allow a monthly payment if you are self paying.

I only know a few people that had to place their LO's into NHs.

All of them had to foot the bill for one reason or another.

Are you asking about respite care?

To my knowledge, ALL skilled nursing facilities/nursing homes are self pay. If the person qualifies for Veteran's assistance or medicaid, then those groups may assist with payments or pay at their going rate. In the case of medicaid, some nursing homes will accept the reduced rate.
Since not all SNF/NHs have unlimited beds for medicaid, being able to self pay provides a wider range of options. This is one reason, I personally would opt to promote self pay IF the person has resources.

I thought all of nursing homes where self pay unless you qualified for Mass Health! We had both of my parents in a facility together-they both had dementia and my dad had seizures and neither one of them could walk or take care of everyday things like eating and drinking alone. SO we had no choice since in home care they are not qualified for nursing skills-anyways we self paid while there my parents did not qualify for Mass Health-not sure what state you live in. Even while we had them both at home for awhile with day care services we still had self pay. This is how Mass works. I would check what state you live in.
