If an elderly person gets exploited, $29K taken by a family member, is there any way he can ever retrieve that money?

Granddaughter and bf stole his money and they are being investigated. How do you know when its time for nursing home?

Trust your own judgement as to when it’s time for a Nursing home. You can also talk to Dad’s doctor for advice. I got the idea that time was coming when I took my mom shopping one day and discovered she had left her oven on. Every person is different. If you start to notice Dad is having troubles caring for himself, things like bathing, cooking for himself, etc. then start looking around for a facility. Some facilities have a long waiting list.

You have 2 questions: Can the grandfather get the money back? And when to go to nursing home? I can answer the first question.

It's unlikely that he will get his the money back. The so called granddaughter and her loser bf must have been broke and needed money. If they already spent it, then they won't be able to pay back any.

If for some luck, they haven't already blown through the money, then he may be able to get some of it back.

If he got tricked into 'giving' the money to the losers, then it would be very difficult to prove that, hence, he would be out of luck.

If he sues them and gets a judge to say the losers have to pay back. Well, they can only pay back if they have money.

As for the nursing home question, you need to provide more info as to his health. Then other posters might be able to help you.
