Mom is 96 with dementia, and just eats, sleeps, and doesn't speak. Is this the end?

Mom is 96 with dementia. She just eats, sleeps, doesn't speak, and has no interest in any activities. Any thoughts? Is this the end?

Dear Carnation:

I hear your concern for your mother. I'm so sorry to hear about her condition. I would second Jeanne's suggestion. Its tough to see her our parents get to this stage in life. My other thought is that she is just tired and its part of getting older to sleep more.

How many hours is she sleeping each day?

It sounds like an evaluation by hospice is in order.
