How can I get the state to pay for me to caregive for an elderly man who I have known for several years?

He is in desperate need and wants me.

When it comes to VA benefits, its not something you get in a few days, weeks or months. I filed for my Mom and it took a lot of having the right info and six months to be told she was declined for a stupid reason. I chose not to fight it.

sadiemae2015, a vast majority of adult children are not paid to care for even their own parent... unless the parent can pay from their own retirement fund.

As mentioned above, you can check to see if this gentleman can qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare]. And if your State provides such a program where you can be paid, the pay will be very minimal.

Do you know if this elderly man was ever in the military, as there are some programs he might be qualified.

You can't make the state they do anything they don't provide. In the state of PA., it looks like u can be trained by an agency and become their employee. Then the person needing help has to apply for the help and requests u. Like suggested, call ur office of aging and run this by them. Have the person call Medicaid and see what he maybe entitled to.

Call your Area Agency on Aging and ask them what the process is.

Is he on Medicaid? Could he be?
