Is Still Alice an accurate portrayal of what it's like to have dementia?

Are there other publications that would also be good to consult?

Get a copy of "The 36-Hour Day" ". That is a very good book and will give you a very good idea of what living with dementia is like.

NO. It's a good movie about early-onset Alzheimers, but the symptoms are different for everyone. I wouldn't take that movie as gospel on how the disease progresses - first and foremost because it's about early-onset Alzheimers, which is not what most of us are dealing with here. Most (but not all) of the people cared for by members of this site are elderly loved ones, and the Alzheimers or dementia came on as they aged.

Reading here - a lot - will help you gain insight into what it's like for those of us who have cared (or are still caring) for someone with Alzheimers or dementia. The progression of the disease varies from one person to the next - it can be fast or slow. Depends on the person, their health and various other factors. A fall or hospitalization will often cause a swift uptick in the symptoms, or cause them to develop symptoms you didn't notice before.
