How do I handle my mother with dementia symptoms and talks sexually inappropriate at times with the caregivers?

She's 92 years old and it started with a lot of repeating but lately has made inappropriate remarks. She sometimes has no filter in what she says. This is totally contrary to her usual personality. She does it towards others at her assisted living.

The caregivers should not be shocked. My daughter is a nutritionist in a nursing home. She told us about a gentleman with Alzheimer's who said, "take your clothes off." She kindly told his that wasn't appropriate. He said, "none of you women will take your clothes off!" My mom didn't even say sexual things but she developed what my nephew calls "a sailor's mouth" and she never was a curser. A couple years ago my step dad said, "these days a**hole is a term of endearment." We have learned that you just can't be too embarrassed. When I used to take my mom grocery shopping with me, she would sometimes yell and blow raspberries as people went past. I guess we just have to develop a sense of humor and humility as we apologize 😂😂😂

Thanks for your suggestion and will keep it in mind. I do agree she says things for attention and reaction.

Firstly, ignore what she says, if you react to what she says it can get worse because your mother has your attention. The other thing to do is change the subject to something totally different. Inform the staff members of what she says so they are aware also, is not a bad thing. All the best, Arlene Hutcheon
