Can you pay your expenses for care from your joint account as part of the spend down process?

I live on the West coast and Mom lives on the East coast. We have a joint checking account which she is the primary account holder. Mom has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers/dementia and has been placed in a nursing facility. I have no brothers or sisters and Dad passed years ago. There are no other family members in the area. I have both medical and financial POA. So, to get her placed and paperwork going for Medicaid, I flew in and stayed for almost 2 weeks which incurred about $2,500 in expenses for tickets, rental car and hotel.
