Scaredgirl Asked April 2017

My dad's wife has power of attorney. What can I do?

My dad is the end stage of alzheimers and is in a home that treats him badly.  His wife thinks it is okay where he is. Is there anything his kids can do?

Scaredgirl, is Dad telling you that he is being treated badly? Or are you seeing this first hand?

More information would be helpful for us to understand better what is going on.

Can you say why you think the staff in the facility treat him badly? Abuse should be reported. Is there some reason you suspect it? I'd certainly tell his wife about it. Do you know why she believes otherwise?

If you aren't satisfied, I'd see an attorney about what your rights might be. There are options, even over a POA.

Visit him often. Show your love.

Is he on hospice care? Do you think he should be?

You can politely and respectfully make suggestions to his wife. Acknowledge that it is her decision.
