Won't iodine in the laundry discolor the clothes?

A post suggested putting iodine rub in the laundry to remove urine odor from clothes. My concern would be the discoloration of the clothes. Has anyone tried this?

I wouldn't think of it. A good biological washing detergent, with an extra enzyme boost if necessary, on a good hot programme if the fabrics allow, plus you can get in-wash disinfectants designed to kill microbes at low temperatures... there really shouldn't be any need to resort to iodine.

Or, if you must try something a little more outré than products made for the purpose, I hear great things about white vinegar. Never needed to use it myself.

Are you having trouble with a particular fabric?
