What kind of help is there for us to get for light housework?

Due to having knee surgery twice on the same knee I have recently become unable to clean house for my husband and myself. This will only be temporary. We are both disabled and draw Social Security. Our income will not qualify for Medicaid benefits.

Also check your church bulletin board. There are commercial maid services in most areas but some will want to do an expensive " deep cleaning " the first time out. Some come with an agenda of how they will attack the house and will run out of the contracted time before they finish so if you use them have a detailed list of what you want done vs their list. Also there are some caregiver companies that also offer running errands, light house cleaning, even cooking. I hope your knee is better soon and that you find a good housekeeper to help you and your husband.

There are probably a lot of women who clean in your area who work independently that would be willing to schedule in some light cleaning for a reasonable price. Ask your family, friends and neighbours who they use, or check the notice board at the local senior's centre or grocery store. If money is a big barrier a tidy couple can easily get by with a thorough cleaning once a month if you relax your standards a little.
