My uncle was just diagnosed with an aggressive form of dementia and my aunt will not let us see him. What options do we have?

My mom's brother was just diagnois with an agressive form of Dementia. His wife put in a nursing home, and them moved him to a hospital in Denton, and now we do not know where he is. My Mom has not had contact with him since Monday Jan 2, and has not seen him since Christmas Eve. His wife will not contact us to let us know where or how he is doing. His wife has not even contact my cousin about his dad. What are our optitions as a family to find out about my uncle.

lamthornhill, sounds like your Aunt has her hands full with her husband, and probably is exhausted from being his caregiver when he first started with his dementia. It is not uncommon for that caregiver to shut out everyone to get a break.

You need to remember everything is now new for your Aunt and for your Uncle. Usually when one is placed in a new residence such as a nursing home, it is common for no one to make contact with that person for 2 weeks. They need to settle in, get use to the place, get use to the Staff, etc.

I know you are worried, but give your Aunt some breathing room. Hopefully she will eventually contact your cousin or your Mom with some news.

So, was he released back to the NH? Do you know which one? Can you send a card, wishing him well?

Has your cousin called the hospital in Denton to ask about his father's condition?

This lady is my cousin's step mom, and it will not contact anyone about my uncle. She is supposed to be in contact with either my cousin, my mom, or my other uncle. She is refusing to answer any calls or texts from either my cousin or my mom. My mom is really worried about her brother.

It sounds as though your uncle is seriously ill; it sounds as though something occurred ( a fall, severe behavioral issues) that caused his removal to a hospital.

I think the best course of action is to rely upon your cousin to be in contact with him mom to offer support and help during what is certainly a trying time. She may be overwhelmed with what is going on.
