What can you say to an elderly parent when they beg you to take them home but you know it is no longer safe for them to be alone?

Mom has been living independently alone for years but is now suffering from serious memory issues and panic attacks but continues to think she can live alone.

Suzie, one thing you need to do is find out which "home" is Mom talking about.

My Mom kept talking about wanting to do home, but at first I thought it was the house that she and my Dad shared. Turned out it was her childhood home she wanted, which is very common with the elderly if they have any type of memory issues.

My dad recently went into the nursing home and cannot live at home. Every day he packs and wants to go home. My step mom and I cheerfully tell him that he'll go home when the doctor says he can. Then we start talking about something else. He forgets until the next day. It really doesn't help to argue with them.
