Do we have right to appeal to one of the others on original list of Sub-acute Care facilities?

We were given a list of 31 subacute care facilities for a family member. Only 1 would accept the patient. If after visiting it is felt the facility is innappropriate (services, cleanliness ect) do we have right to appeal to one of the others on original list

Someone may also not be accepted if there are insufficient funds, should long term placement be needed after subacute care. They may be protecting their bottom line, as most businesses do. My mom needed rehab post surgery, which was covered by Medicare and BCBS. However, they still wanted all the financials before accepting her. Sad but true.

Larry, is this for rehab or for a more permanaent placement? Have you spoken with the hospital placement person?

Usually a place declines when there isn't a bed available... thus the patient would need to go to the facility that has a bed.

Now if you feel the facility isn't up to par, you could put the patient on a waiting list. Usually a hospital transferring a patient has first choice over the patient on a waiting list. You would need to pay for transportation.

So sorry. Have you considered home care services? If he is a Vet, have you called the VA for help?

LarryC Nov 2016
No, They declined based on information received from the hospital

Did you actually go to any of the others? Surely there is a reason why the patient was not accepted. No beds? Wrong insurance? Needs Memory Care?
