What firmness should a mattress for seniors be?

My Hubby has Dementia along with sciatica problems starting when he was about 30. He's now 93. He is 5' 10" and weighs 170 lbs. 2 questions: What firmness should a senior have and can a physician recommend a mattress that Medicare would pay for?

Cheyenne, I came across this on the Medicare website regarding mattresses. I don't know how helpful this might be.

I know this site doesn't advertise items; but, could someone give me a link or two for the type of bed & mattress Medicare approves of? Please?

Physician can write an Rx for an adjustable bed and specify the mattress. Medicare covers 80% of the rental.
