Research your area to see if there are any veterans associations. We gave couches, workout equipment, dressers and more to a local veterans group which has not only a thrift shop but houses homeless veterans as well.

One of the men told me they always need bedding and kitchenware (pots, pans, dishes, silverware).

I believe some Habitat for Humanity locations have thrift shops. However, the local one was poorly staffed. I gave up trying to work with them after several unreturned phone calls.

211 is the United Way hotline; folks there can probably make some suggestions for your local area.

Bravo, I found that link of ideas for downsizing and parting with "stuff". Lot of interesting comments.

If you live in the States, your friend can call the Salvation Army and schedule a pickup. The Salvation Army will only pick up what they think is sell-able, the items have to look in almost new condition. There is also Goodwill, again one would need to schedule an appointment. Both websites will say what they will take, and what they don't take.

Check around the area for "thrift shops" that take in smaller donations and will give out receipts for income taxes.

Then if there is stuff left over, and chances are there will be, call a place like GOT JUNK and for a price the haulers will take away the things.

Not long ago we had a thread there about getting rid of parent's "stuff". I will look for it and post it on this thread.
