trosenb, also note that some parents are very good at hiding things they can't do any more. My parents were like that. The main floor of their home looked fairly neat and tidy, not bad for parents in their 90's. The refrigerator looked ok, some spills but durable. Mom was still making all the meals, and dirty plates were being washed, etc.
If only I could have snooped upstairs, that was a totally different story... I won't go into detail. I didn't know how it looked until my Mom had passed, then I wasn't afraid to snoop around as I knew my Dad didn't care.
