Who signs the death certificate in hospice?

My experience was the same as FF. Very easy and the funeral home got dad from MC

Here in NY the nurse signs the preliminary death certificate that you need to have before the funeral home will pick up the body. The "official" death certificate signed by the coroner is then retrieved by the funeral director. You'll need several of those, because everyone seems to want a certified copy.

In Oregon it is the attending doctor.

Katie, here in the Commonwealth of Virginia when my Mom passed away a few months ago, while living in long-term-care under Hospice, the facility doctor signed the certificat.

My Dad had passed last month while living in Memory Care, under Hospice, and it was a Nurse Practitioner who signed.

There is no going to the hospital, instead the funeral home will come to the facility.

You need to ask your hospice provider what the procedure is for your state. Usually it is the RN or Medical Director for Hospice, but it may vary due to state law.
