My mother's live-in companion refuses to bathe, shave and get a hair cut.

He has been wearing the same pajama pants and t-shirt for weeks. He has stains on the t-shirt and poop stains on his pj pants. My mother's live-in companion refuses to bathe, shave and get a hair cut. I bought him new pj pants and new t-shirts so I could launder them but he refuses to change into them. All he does is eat and lay on the couch all day. Mom says she will help him clean up but after a couple months nothing has changed and now when I say something it makes mom mad. Please give me some advice on this situation

Could you call in a wellness check to the local police or public health department?

At first I thought the live in companion was your Mom's caregiver.... but it sounds more like he is her sig other, correct? How long have they been together? Does he have family in the area that can talk to him? What are his medical issues? Possibly depression?

How is your Mom handling this? Is she willing and able to help him? He really should see a doctor. But if both adults are of clear mind, they should live their lives as they see fit.

Could you clarify whether it is your mom or her companion who has dementia, or both? What is your role in their lives? How often do you see them?
