Was your husband a veteran? If he served during a time of war...he (you) should get Aid and Attendance from the VA. You could qualify for money each month that will help.
Check also with the local council on aging...they may have programs that will help too.
Also, check with the local Goodwill. They have programs to provide utility assistance.
