Where to find someone to awaken me and ensure that I eat?

I have arthritis and diabetes 2 and am getting around fairly well. I am 80. My home is a 4 storey house with a large garden. I am trying to e And remind m to eat lunch, as I am unused to that And ensure that I can find or cook a dinner [I usually make stir fry of protein and lots of green veg [broccoli, zuccini, esparagus, and a huge salad... I guess this Independent living with the catch of REMINDERS during the day. I am not a social person, ie I have hobbies and am quite used to living alone.

My children and I have developed a set of possibles for when I can no longer stay in my house. We have set up finances and trusts and etc. I do NOT wish an independent 'living'' community - I have lots of pall and take part in several community groups, a Retirees group, and The Historical Society. I am now tracking living buildings as to bedroom size and lack of steps and approachable safe showers. My daughter has a former office on her first floor, with attached bath.... this is "my' room when I visit She also has a large lot with space for a ''cottage'' which I could build - and be steps away from her garage and thus the kitchen and the grandkids. I prefer the community I now live in and hope to stay as long as possible BUT we are all looking and planning so we can move quickly when the time come. I am away ahead of you in the needed thinking and planning, but am following up every avenue I can find. As a retired academic librarian who still serves on national committees and attends their annual and winter conferences and is asked to share my ideas and plans, I am quite used to doing deep research on a topic.
Thanks to all of you who answered my questions! and I will send other retirees to query you. VJF

I want to urge you to think ahead to the time you can't keep up that big home and yard. Will you be able to recognize when you reach that point? What will you do then, where do you see yourself in 5 years, or 10?
I'm much younger than you but my life plan includes selling my home and downsizing into an independent living community at around 75. I have watched older relatives who refused to make the little changes that would make their futures more sustainable who ultimately had to make major changes at a time of crisis and I want to avoid that. I figure that at age 75 or 80 most people are still in pretty good shape mentally and physically, so I should still have the wits, stamina and flexibility to select a new home that can all meet my future needs as I age.

I attend frequent professional conferences - and each hotel has a concierge and a wakeup service. I guess this is what I want! So I'll ask my son [a clever computer guru] to build an alarm device which will 'page' me with the hours for meals. I guess people at my level of competence need a few things that are not standard in 'housing' possibilities.

Living with a roommate is ridiculous! Will not do that - yet!

Actually, Independent Living will not wake you or remind you to eat. Consider getting a roommate for now, preferably someone younger, in their 60's. Then look at Assisted Living possibilities, as they will remind you for meals and meds. Nice facilities also take you shopping and on bus trips.
