Can anyone give me some input about an emphysema patient being cared for at home?

I'd like to hear from people who have cared for a loved one with emphysema. Sometimes I think this could go on for years, even though she's in hospice care. I am the sole caregiver at home; there is no one else. This is my sister who is 71; I am 74. I will not last for years as a caregiver, I'm pretty sure. I just wonder at the progression of the disease. She was diagnosed in 2001, and has many breathing treatments and meds all day long. All that's affordable as an alternative is a board and care home, and that's stretching her finances quite a bit. However, I feel that unless I do something, I'm going to break down. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Talk to the Hospice nurse about respite care. It would give you some strength, some time to unwind and unload before the coming storm.
