Is there anything else I can do to prevent my father developing bed sores?

Any special clothes or bed sheets? Hi, I am about to bring my bedridden father back home from Hospital. He's 71 years old. The Doctors said he is at risk of developing "Bed Sores". We have bought him a special mattress and we plan to have him on a special diet plan.He has very frail and thin skin. I have researched and found out that there are special clothing and bedding/ Any advice? Have you tried any ? Do they work?

Get your Doc to write a specific RX for home health aide 3x/week, physical therapist 3x/week, social worker 1x, occupational therapist 1x/week, nurse 1x/month, etc. Medicare will cover for a period time dependent on specifics of each case. Doc will be the judge of initial frequency, and required reports to Medicare will modify. I use a four inch memory foam hospital bed mattress topper which is supposed to help. Cost was around $100 from Walmart.

Once a patient gets home from the hospital, they will send a Home Healthcare nurse/case worker to your house to talk with you, coordinate visits by Home Healthcare nurses. Talk to the case worker and tell her of your concerns and she will show you or have someone show you how to turn every 2hrs., etc. as well as set up caregivers to come and wash your dad a couple times a week. This is also time to talk to the caseworker for future care options.
