Geez, iPad typos...it should read "within the list will be a request for your parents annual awards letter(s)"

Alot of this will also depend on what Medicaid program you are thinking that your parents will need. Medicaid is an "at need" entilement which they have to show specific need -both financial & meducal - dependent on the exact program in your state.

For example, if its "in the community" medicaid services, like PACE, the nonprofit that operates the center that PACE is in will do the Medicaid intake. Since they are still living in the community, they do a smallish copay to participate in PaCE. BUT if your ? Is about moving your folks into a NH with Medicaid paying for the NH, then they will actually need to move into a NH and be "medicaid pending" for the application to go forward. The NH if they participate in Medicaid, should have a list of documents that will need to accompany the application; within the lost will be your parents wards letters from SSA and thier pensions or retirement as well as other items to establish they are "at need" financially & if not, they do a spend down. They will need doctors orders for skilled nursing care to be " at need " medically.

Every city, town in the US is within a COG - Council of Governments. COGs are regional planning bodies and clearinghouses for federal & grant money. All COG have an Area on Aging. This site has a drop down list of all the AoA's too!

If your not sure what is out there for your folks, the AoA is a great resource as its just about programs locally available for those over 65. One issue with contacting your states 1-800 medicaid is staff is responding to all types of questions...from WIC, to TANF, to ACA Medicaid expansion, to your ? for your 90 yr old mom. So that ? before you was asking about where to pick up a breast pump.....

You would need to contact the Medicaid office in the State where your parent's live. Every State has their own rules, regulations, and programs.
