Check with the doctor's office regarding a transport service. There are special taxis vans where if someone is in a wheelchair, the service provides a wheelchair that can be wheeled right into the van.
We use such a service for my Mom when she came home from the hospital, and it was worth the cost as there wouldn't have been any way we could have used one of our vehicles.
