Some States have laws or are considering laws where caregivers should be given overtime for anything over 40 hour week.

I live in California, and am fortunate enough to be paid by the hour. My emp, over can afford it. But, she receives the best care money can buy. I receive $15.00 per hour at 96 hours per week. Do the math on that! But, I also have all my taxes deducted, and am covered by workmans comp, and unemployment benefits.

For the average, that would be hard to judge unless there is someone on the forum here who lives in Westchester County and has priced this out.

Salary would also depend on how much work is involved, like is the elder mobile and can take care of him/herself when it comes to bathing or using the bathroom. Or would the elder need to be lifted from the bed to a wheelchair to the toilet, etc. Would the live-in need to do any housekeeping? Do any shopping? Take the elder to appointments? Also, would the caregiver get the weekends off as they need to have some down time or they become burnt out quickly, thus the family would take over the care or hire a weekend caregiver to come in.

Please note, that if someone hires a caregiver full-time and/or live-in, the house insurance would need a "workman's comp" rider..... unless the caregiver comes from an Agency that has their own workman's comp for their employees.
