What is the most successful means to advertise for an in-home caregiver outside of an agency?

In the state of Georgia. I have not had success with agencies ..... they are expensive, do not keep their promises and send immature, irresponsible young caregivers.

I have posted ads at libraries and churches, and now will have an ad in a local small newspaper.

My mother needs minimal physical assistance....help with shoes and socks, light cooking, light cleaning, companionship, monitoring when walking with the walker.

Any input would be appreciated. Thank You.

Please note, if your hire a caregiver who you are paying directly, and not through an Agency, you will need to have a "workman's comp" rider for either your homeowner's insurance or your Mom's just in case the caregiver gets hurt on the job. Also, you will need to work out who will be paying the payroll taxes, you or the caregiver.

I would ask for personal referrals from people who know the caregiver. This could be from clients or friends of clients. Try dropping by a senior center to talk to some people or leave your name and information with the staff there. Ask people at a church. If I were not going the agency route, this is what I would do.

Call your county office of the aging. You won't find help in libraries and churches. So where do they hang out? Nursing schools, uniform shops, medical supply stores.
