How to make or file a complaint against HSW who obviously not following the ethics of hospice?

The social worker for Redlands Hospital is bias. She wasn't looking out for the patient s well being. When new family showed up the patient started showing signs of destress. HSW didn't protect the patient from aggressive family members that maneuvered themselves into a position to take advantage of the weak and vulnerable patient. The head of Hospice has done nothing towards helping the patient from the evil family members

Were you arguing in front of your uncle with your other family members? How are you going to prove that any of what your family did was the social worker's fault? Guidelines are just that - a guide - and are subject to interpretation.

Tim, so sorry you lost your uncle. Try to find peace and closure.

Anyone else wonder if this is justice4tim/timsuncle?

There must be a back story to this situation, as Hospice has no control or policing of who visits because Hospice only comes to the house a couple times during the week for a half hour or so to check on the patient. The social worker usually is at the initial meeting, and doesn't participate after the fact unless the patient needs to be moved to a continuing care facility to which the social worker will find an available bed.

that's what the social worker told mejust going to file a complaint about the social worker the cousin I have to take her to court

jeannegibbs Dec 2015
How do you know that the HSW "banned" you? Did your cousin tell you, or did the HSW tell you directly? How do you know what HSW told Uncle?

This is all so confusing. But if you think you have a legal case (against your cousin and/or against the social worker) you should seek legal counsel.

Hospicevsfamily Dec 2015
I was with him 24/7 for 35 days . I got sick so cousin came in took over got Hospice Social Worker involved. HSW banned me .Which now I know she has no right to that. Banning me to stay away till he signs the trust?? Why so I can't talk to him and let him know what his nice is doing? HSW told uncle that if I show up I will be arrested which is also not true. For What?? Well I hope my cousin is real proud of herself for getting all he has, having him do a quitclaim deed 2 days before death. Just isnt right at all. Thanks to the social worker I wasn't there by his bedside when he passed. RIP UNCLE

jeannegibbs Dec 2015
Who is with Uncle 24/7?

Someone dying of cancer may indeed be vulnerable, but may still be legally competent to handle their own affairs. How do you propose that a hospice social worker would/should prevent him from making financial changes? Generally the social worker visits less than once a week.

This sounds like a case of family vs family, not hospice vs family.

Joining this thread. Who regulates social workers? As in, if a lawyer had committed an ethical violation, I could file a complaint with the bar. Is there an equivalent for social workers?

pamstegma Dec 2015
Putting his assets in a trust was a good idea. Since he is not in your home, you are also a visitor. Hospice requires someone with him 24/7 and obviously it is not you. So who is the main caregiver?

GardenArtist Dec 2015
Well, I think the primary source to determine what their obligations are would be in any application/admittance papers you signed. What provisions are there in these documents for dealing with distant relatives and intervening in family disagreements?

And how were they to determine who the distant relatives were?

I honestly think you're barking up the wrong tree. If you felt these relatives were a threat, did you contact the police? Did you ask for injunctions against them the first time they showed up?

Hospicevsfamily Dec 2015
they should be well aware of far distant relatives all the sudden showing up and taking over and the athletes are not something I made up he is my uncle

You say the patient is under hospice care in his home, that usually means aides several times a week, nursing care as needed and a visit from the social worker only occasionally. I would think that someone as frail and vulnerable as he seems to be would not be left alone, so who was there when this "evil family" came to visit, and how is it that they were able to convince him to sign papers to change the poa and will without that person knowing and intervening? I'm just curious how the social worker is supposed to be held responsible for this?

Rainmom Dec 2015
Hodpicevsfamily: are you quoting "Hospice Ethics" from some written material or is that something you came up with yourself? Just curious..,

GardenArtist Dec 2015
What is your role and relationship to the patient and family? You refer to him or her as the patient, rather than my mother, father, aunt, uncle, etc. I'm getting the feeling that you're not a part of the family.

And by the way, to include the name of a specific employee in a public, online complaint as well as the subsequent comments could lead to a libel complaint or suit against you, by the specific social worker or the hospice entity itself.

Hospicevsfamily Dec 2015
Hospice ethics:Take a role in direction and intervention of negative family members.
Hospice ethics: Hospice staff has to protect patient from family members upsetting the patient
Hospice ethics: Hospice is not to be bias.

Hospicevsfamily Dec 2015
No the patient is home . The patient has cancer in the stomachs .No court order. Neg and positive family members are his nieces. While being weak have convinced him into changing his will into a trust , removed me from his DPOA and made them POA . Requested the patient to follow the rules about having visitors, neg family must be in the room all the time when patient has visitors, decides who he can talk to and who he can't, and who can visit .Yes I was there they were as sweet as can be until I was gone that's when they put all the mind control games to work. No patient didn't tell me but by his reactions he was very upset very stressed his health went down hill in a few days of them being there. HSW is well aware of all this but she let it continue . Hospice requses to answer my calls Hospice Supervisor is not helping

Hospicevsfamily, please supply more information. Is the patient in a nursing home or a Hospice facility? What are the health issues of the patient? Is there a court order banning said family from visiting?

Who were the family members? It sounds like more than one person. What kind of advantages were they taking in regard to the patient?

Were you there when this family came in? If not, who told you said family members were there and that they were disruptive to the patient? Did the patient tell you? Does the patient have Alzheimer's/Dementia?

By giving us more information, it could help us analyze the situation to give you advice. But like Rainmom said, it's not Hospice's job to police family quarrels.

Hospicevsfamily Dec 2015
Yes it is .They are suppise to support postive family members not negitive family members who are just there for the money

Rainmom Dec 2015
Not hospices job to play referee in family disputes.
