Can someone give be a ballpark hourly wage paid to home caregivers?

I would like family members to care for mom and I don't know how much to. Pay them if they sleep there every night. 8:00 p m to 10:00 a m .

In my area (NH) the rate charged by agencies is around $20.00 per hr. with only approximately $12.50 per hr. going to the actual caregiver. This varies from agency to agency. I recently hired an independent caregiver for $17.00 through the VA. They pay SS and compensation in addition on behalf of the caregiver.

Danmar, I would believe whatever is your State minimum wage, unless the family members are certified trained professionals in caregiving. On-the-job training would be minimum wage.

One question, who will be paying the payroll taxes? Will you, or will the family member be an independent contractor thus paying their own taxes. There are companies that will help with the payroll, of course you would need to pay the company for their service, but it might be money well spent.

Personally, I would ask them what they would like to be paid -- flat rate. Don't ask for an answer right away, let them think on it for a day. Then pay them $20 more than they ask for.

Keep in mind that, at least here in suburban Chicago, you can get 24-hour help got $175.

It depends on where you live and how much work is involved. Around here in Alabama I would think $10 an hour would be a good minimum pay.
