My Mom (79) has stopped bathing and doesn't seem to care how she looks. What do I do?

james, sounds like your Mom is silently crying out for help by not bathing, not caring how she looks, not dressing when there are guest in the house. Time to schedule her for a much needed doctor appointment, she would appreciate that.

Can you tell us more about her age, condition, at home, etc? Not much to go on here.

It could be something as simple as a UTI.

Do you have POA? Someone needs to get her some help.

James, it sounds like your mother needs to visit a doctor. I can think of two things that may be going on. She may be depressed, or it may be dementia setting in. It would be good to find a doctor who specializes in geriatrics. If it is depression, there are some good medications that may help. If it is dementia, there are some medications that could help and you can get advice on ways to help her. What you describe sounds more like depression to me, but I don't know. A doctor may be able to help.
