We are dependent on SS only. At 65 we must pay for Medicare. Will we get more SNAP in NYS?

Currently my husband & I receive about $19,000 gross per year from SS and it is our only support. We get $16.00 per month SNAP. At age 65 we will have less SS due to Medicare costs. Will we receive more SNAP? We live in NYS. Thank you.

I would suggest contacting the SNAP administrator that services your area. In NYC, there is additional assistance available. My mom only received food from them and she was single. Based on your income, I'm sure you would qualify for additional assistance. Please check the links below as a starting point: http://www.nyc.gov/html/hra/html/services/cash.shtml

Meals on wheels is only for diabled. People that can't prepare their own meals for whatever reason. You could have one spouse receiving itand not the other.

Yes, some churches have food closets. Itss usually a Church that gives out the monthly government food. I think u need ur SNAP card for that. Call United Way. They usually know where food closets are. As should ur local Social Service.

Yes, check with your local DHS. Also check with any local churches /temples they may have free meals for seniors.

This is a question u need to ask your local Social Service office from who u get SNAP from. You will be paying out about $200 for both of you for part B. Then u have part D for perscriptions unless u qualify for state help which from ur income u may. You will need a suppliment to pick up the 20% Medicare doesn't pay. You may qualify for medicaid. Social Services should be able to help you with all this.
