Are there plastic panties like babies used to wear 50 years ago for adults?

My 70 yr old husband with alz has started becoming incontinent with stool. He wears depends but often it come out of the depends, He is embarrassed and will lie to me and try to clean himself up. He and the bathroom are a disaster after these incidents. He says he doesn't even know he has done it until he goes to the bathroom to urinate, We don't go much anymore. We go for rides but don't often get out of the car. We do still go to the doctors and quick trips to the grocery store, I hate to do it but I wondered if those plastic panties would work for leaks. He takes metamucil on the doctors advice. Any other suggestions would be so helpful. This doesn't happen daily but about once or twice a week.
I watch is diet trying to avoid anything that would cause loose stool.

There is an online catalog called Easy Comforts. Go to their website and click on Incontinence. You will find what you are looking for.

I think that plastic underwear would be very uncomfortable and noisy too (rustle rustle rustle with every step), and they would probably still leak around the edges. It is a challenge when they no longer are aware of their bowel movements and don't go at a regular time. I make sure my mom sits on the toilet for several minutes after meals, but she still usually goes in her pull-up. (sigh)
For sure try different brands, sizes and absorbencies. Maybe if he wears a pair of those sports style briefs over the pull-up it will help contain any spillovers?
And as terrible as it is to have to clean up after loose stools I much prefer that to the worry and frustration of having her constipated.

I have tried it with and without the metamucil. He has colon polyps and is supposed to take the metamucil. I couldn't tell any difference with or without it. I will try a different size of attends. Actually he prefers diapers from Publix because they fit better. He has changed brands in the past 3 months to Attends, never thought of that. Maybe I should go back to the Publix ones. Thanks for the advice. LIfe seems to get harder every day. I have health problems too, congestive heart failure beint the worst. We have discussed it with our kids and want to stay in our house as long as possible. At this time I don't have help but I have looked into it and know where I can get some, expensive though it is. I love all you people and read the column every day.

Metamucil made my mom have the runs, even if i only gave a teaspoon and not the full capful. Maybe stool softeners would work. Have you talked to his doctor about this? Maybe sending a note in before the appointment would be helpful.

Sondra how challenging. My Mom had a similar situation only it was before the depends and it was in her apartment - on her carpet. YIKES. The Depends did help (you might check the fit to be sure you have the right size). Things got better when she was in Memory care. The only difference I saw was they toileted EVERYresident on a 'schedule'. Upon arising, before lunch, before dinner and before bedtime. In between as required. If you watch his 'accident' times you may see a pattern and get him toileted appropriately. Watch his coffee intake and personally, if he has regular bowel movements, I might give a smaller dose of Metamucil. BUT I'm not a doctor! LOL
