It does not happen every night. My mom does wear disposable underwear daily and nightly but I think going pee that often is too much even if it only happens once or twice a week, right? I do limit her liquid intake at night. She is diabetic but it's controlled. And she does take one incontinence pill (Vesicare - 5mgs) daily in the morning.

Countrymouse and Canyon727, I know it's not a UTI because she recently had her labs and all was good. It's probably more of a problem for me because I have to help her in the bathroom especially if her diaper or clothing needs to be changed. I work full time so there are days when I'm tired at work because my sleep was interrupted all night. Pamstegma, I'm wondering if the problem is low blood sugar because she has been on vesicare for more than 9 months. During the day she good. If it is low blood sugar, what can I do for her? She does not take sleep meds nor diuretics.

What frequency is normal for your mother?

I expect/hope this is a stupid question, but she wouldn't happen also to have been prescribed a diuretic for any reason, has she? Stranger prescriptions have happened…

The other point with frequent getting up at night is that you have to wonder if she actually needs to pee, and it's waking her up, or if she wakes up and therefore notices that she might as well go for a pee.

Keep an eye on volume (easier if she uses a commode) and check for a u.t.i.; and other than that is it actually a problem for her or for you?

If she has been on the Vesicare for more than 4 weeks and you are not seeing improvement in bladder control, stop using it. I tend to suspect the nighttime wakefulness may be due to low blood sugar.

Urinary frequency can be from a UTI, and that should be checked. The advancing Alzheimers can cause frequency, as she cannot hold her urine. If she takes a sleep med, that could also lead to more incontinence. My mom seems to urinate almost constantly at night, plus goes to the toilet 1-2 times during the night. During the daytimes, she is usually dry.
I put Poise pads inside her overnight brief to keep her dryer.
