My Mom has outrageous medical bills. Can she file for bankruptcy?

She falls short of money every month. The only other thing is my dad left her with a lump sump of money that she can only take out every 6 months. Her home is under living trust
Any advice?

Jen, does your mom get Medicare? What are the bills for? Is she using doctors who accept Medicare? Need more details, you'll get better answers.

Also wanted to state..years ago me and my wife bankrupted, they allow 1 car, 1 house and everything of value they take..its not the best way to go..no bank will even talk to you. If you can find alternative it will be better..Energy bills can be helped by a community Action agency and sometimes rent or house payments.. check with the resources in your area from DSHS..they usually have a list of people to help.

I am not really sure if my advice is good..but I heard where people can borrow against money the is a for sure thing..not sure what the rates would be..try lending tree or money tree if you have them around your state..
