Is there a device or something we can purchase that will assist us getting Dad up from a fall?

My Dad keeps falling but my Mom & I have a terrible time getting him up. He is a large man and just doesn't have the strength in his legs to help us.

My mother usually falls forward so padding in the pants wouldn't help. She'd need pads on her hands, elbows, and forehead.

We got my mother a Hoyer lift. However, we have never actually used it to get her up from a fall. I think it's something that is more useful for a patient who often needs help getting up (from bed, for instance) so the patient and caregiver get practice in setting it up and operating it. I'm still glad we have it. If I couldn't get my mother up any other way I would spend the 10 or 15 minutes figuring it out and getting her positioned properly to use the lift.

I don't know, but I bought for my father pants that have built-in padding on the hip area. I can't remember where I bought them but it was somewhere in PA. They also sell protective hats and also shorts with the built-in padding.

This may sound silly, but can these falls be prevented? Is the house equipped with grab bars, toilet riser, bed rails? Does he need a walker or a scooter? Is it getting beyond your abilities to care for him at home? If this situation is not corrected he's going to suffer serious injury.
