Can my friend pay me outta her pocket for my care provider services ?

My friend is on a fixed income (SS/SSD).

She can certainly pay you directly.

As marinersfan says, she may also be eligible for some financial assistance to pay you. If she has a case worker, that is the place to begin the inquiry into that possibility.

Good luck to both of you!

She can if she wants to, but she has to do payroll and declare the wages, or else it is considered a gift and Medicaid imposes penalties on gifts. So if she is going to need Medicaid soon, for a nursing home, keep the payments ON the books.

I'm not an expert and only telling my experience...If she is disabled, you may be able to be her paid caregiver. If she has a case worker, call them and have them do an assessment to determine her level of care. If she is eligible for assistance - medicaid, COPES etc. They may pay you a certain amount of hours per month.

You would have to have a background check, fingerprinting and complete some online training courses. You could also do care giving for others once you get set up and continue the yearly online training (12 hrs per year here - paid).

But, if she can afford to pay you and doesn't want to go through the assessment, yes, she can pay you.
