Call an elder law attorney for a free consultation. The law is what you need to know. Do this now!

I am the one needing the care...full time. my son is 63 and i am 93 and am trying to recover, after 4 1/2 mos in a nursing home, from a serious auto accident. Because I am NOT on Medicaid or welfare I cannot get any help at all.

And even if able to pay from own pocket, siblings concerned about inheritance so everythin in their power to stop it.

dottiexspar, majority of grown children do not get paid for caring for their parent, unless the parent is financially able to pay from their own pocket.

You must have the best of documentation and ALL receipts for everything and hope Medicaid doesnt penalize you. Its best to hire an agency if you want to approved for Medicaid. If may be looked at as a Gift.

Oh forgot one thing, the wages will also have deductions for unemployment,.federal & state.

Ask this question at your local Medicaid office, they can give you the Official answer. Keep in mind, whatever reimbursements you might possibly receive from Medicaid , are going to require your Social Security number as well as your mom's. Any payments are treated as wages and will have Soc Sec & Medicare taxes deducted as well as federal & state income witholding. All of your income is taxable in the US

I understand your question. Not sure if Medicaid pays you more as a caregiver or pays a health aide. I dont know where you live, but in Ohio, medicare will pay for a home aide. Hope that helps
