How do I deal with the overwhelming smell in the nursing home?

Now that I'm doing better at dealing with my mom in the nursing home I still have a huge problem, the smell. Every time I visit the smell makes me feel sick and I begin to panic. It's ruining my visits. What should I do?

Or Vicks Vapor Rub..

So sorry, Nora, you are noticing an odor... one idea is to get a small jar of Vaseline and place a tiny bit under your nose to help block any smells. Let us know if that works.

Is your Mom well cared for? It does not sound like a very good nursing home. You can talk to the director of nursing about this subject and if it does not improve report to the state board. If it makes you sick can you imagine what it is like to live and work there.

It should NOT smell! What is that all about? My dad's MC did not smell, and my GMothers NH did not smell. Something is off there if you are smelling dirty smells. The occasional "poop" smell may be there if it;s fresh and they are cleaning it up.. but a well run home will not smell. Check this out ASAP!

I am sorry that is happening. Are you smelling urine? If so, that shouldn't be. My mother is in a NH and there are no odors.

I would point it out, to administration.
